I quit some job some time back. Needless to say, I was running away from a situation that had developed for 3–4 months. It was a bittersweet ending to what might have been a successful marriage. However, this is not a safe space for unsaid regrets. It is a stage. And perform I will. I invited my colleagues for drinks on my final day at work. I had prepared this write-up when I was drunk the night before. My friends had urged me to prepare a departing speech of endearment. I started with love but then reality took over.
“As some of might know I joined This firm and this team on 18th May 2020. Looking back I have to admit, it wasn’t love at first sight. Looking today it hasn’t been love at last sight either.
I joined at the start of the pandemic. I worked online for the first 18 months. At first, I used to feel that most of my colleagues were robotic and had no life outside work. But then last year. finally! I met them and realized that I was right, they did not.
Honestly, though, I have never considered myself married to work, and yet this feels like a divorce. It’s not all bad though. There’s a saying for guys in my local area that loosely translates to — if you are not happy in love, at least make sure your in-laws are rich. And…… this is what this place and management was for me.
In conclusion, all I have is best wishes and a solid BYE, cuz I’m not sure much of it was too good.”
